Well hello there!
I’m Anna, and I’m one of the new Account Executives at Moreish. I’ve been asked to write a blog to say hi, and tell you all a little bit about myself. So here it goes…
Where I grew up
I grew up in the plummy yummy mummy town of Reigate, nestled within the rolling green hills of Surrey. It was a great place to grow up, and if you’re ever in the market for some nice jewellery, an overpriced candle, an ornate gift shop full of posh hand creams or a bougee café, then I’d highly recommend it (if you ever need literally anything else however, you’ll have to go elsewhere).
…Travelling and university
After school I spent a year travelling around Costa Rica and South East Asia, before coming home and cracking on with an English & Music degree at the University of Southampton. Music has always been a huge part of my life! I’ve been performing in orchestras and choirs ever since I was a kid, and I can play the piano, violin, viola, a bit of saxophone, and I also sing! I’ve always been a massive theatre kid at heart (still am), and so after University, I decided to audition for drama schools and become an actor (much to my dad’s horror).
Drama school and acting…
I went to to drama school in Cardiff, which is a great place to live by the way – especially when the rugby’s on! Next stop was London, where I spent a couple of years auditioning, teaching music and acting, and performing.
I had a lot of fun and learned a lot, but let me tell ya, that performing world is a tricky business. All those horrible clichéd audition scenes you see in films like La La Land? THEY’RE TRUE.
Living in Canada
I eventually decided to take a much-needed break from acting, and followed a friend out to Canada to do a ski season.
This is a pretty winding journey so far, you still with me!? Ok – Canada in a nutshell.
Canada. Was. Amazing.
My six-month adventure ended up lasting for 2 years! COVID struck whilst I was out there, so I couldn’t really get home…. but I consider myself incredibly lucky. Restrictions weren’t as tough in western Canada, and I got to spend two years working as a reservations manager, alongside skiing, hiking, road tripping through the Rockies, swimming in beautiful mountain lakes, meeting amazing people from all over the world, seeing loads of bears, and spending a lot of time shovelling snow off my drive way. It was glorious! I really could talk about Canada forever, but that’s for another blog…
After two years, my visa expired, and it had been a while since I’d bought an overpriced scarf or spent more than £4 on a coffee – it was time to head back to Reigate and try to embark on a career in Marketing.
Why Marketing?
Coming from an acting background, I’m basically just fascinated by people, and love telling their stories. Turns out, that that’s very linked to marketing! It’s about understanding what a specific group of people might want from a product or service, anticipating their concerns, and creating communication platforms that tell them all they need to know. Equally, it’s great fun when you work with a client who has a product/service that you really believe in, and you get to tell the world it’s story! It’s analytical but also creative. The best of both worlds!
Why Moreish?
Why did I choose Moreish I hear you ask? Well…
- I like to keep things interesting: Moreish is an agency, which means we get to work with loads of different clients and projects all the time. No two days are the same, and there’s never a dull moment! In the few weeks since I started with Moreish, I’ve already help manage so many projects, including a new website, an animated video, creative content for social media ads, helped organise a launch event for a new company, and have worked with so many talented creatives, copywriters, designers and developers from the moreish team and met about 250 different clients from all different companies and backgrounds.
- Who doesn’t want to be financially savvy? Knowledge is power, and money helps! Working for an agency in financial services means you get to learn about lots of different types of insurance, investment companies, health care providers, pension schemes… the list is endless!
- They’re awesome: Moreish is a really lovely company, with great people and really genuine values and beliefs. They really are as friendly to their staff as they are to their clients. Plus, there’s a pool table in the office….
In conclusion
Well, there you have it! My journey so far and why I came to Moreish. I’m sure by the time I write my next blog I’ll be a mastermind on financial services, have met a whole bunch of interesting new clients, and will be a champion at pool…
