LV= Suite of Tools and Calculators

The challenge

LV= wanted to empower financial advisers to have more meaningful, personalised conversations with their clients while simultaneously demonstrating the value of their protection products.

The challenge was threefold: create intuitive tools that would simplify complex calculations, help advisers quantify protection needs more accurately, and drive demand for both personal and business protection products.

The approach

Our approach focused on developing calculators that were not just functional, but would actively guide advisers through protection conversations and help them uncover new opportunities. Each tool was developed with a PDF report functionality to enable advisers to take these conversations offline as well.

For personal protection, we developed:

• A Split Waiting Period Calculator that tackled the complexity of varied sick pay arrangements, enabling advisers to create tailored Income Protection solutions that perfectly match their clients’ needs
• An Income Shortfall Calculator that transformed abstract concepts into tangible figures, helping clients visualise the real-world impact of income loss and the value of protection

For business protection, we created a complete ecosystem of tools:

• A Key Person Cover Calculator that quantified the financial impact of losing crucial team members
• A Business Risk Calculator that translated statistical probability into meaningful business impact scenarios
• A Premium Equalisation Calculator that simplified complex premium-sharing arrangements
• A Relevant Life Cover Calculator that provided clear guidance on appropriate cover levels
• A Business Valuation Calculator that offered quick, reliable estimates for shareholder protection purposes

Each tool was designed with compliance at its core, ensuring adherence to Google cookies policy, data collection requirements, and privacy regulations. The suite was integrated with LV=’s broader digital ecosystem, along with two other calculators – the Risk Reality Calculator and Protection Matchmaker.

The results

The modernised tools & calculators have delivered significant impact across multiple fronts:

• Streamlined adviser workflows through intuitive, professional tools
• Strengthened relationships with independent financial advisers through superior digital resources
• Enhanced user experience for both advisers and their clients
